It's long been recognized that the great bulk of corporate data consists of redundancies. Past attempts to send just the unique bytes failed because the byte-level differencing engines required massive amounts of system memory, disk accesses and time to achieve maximum compression.
Pocket Soft's patented new technology, dfc-gorilla, eliminates these problems. It provides maximum byte-level compression ratios with minimal impact on your system resources. It enables byte-level differencing solutions in a wide variety of applications which were previously either impractical or impossible because the byte-level differencing requirements often exceeded available resources.
Typical compression ratios of 90-95% are achieved. Ratios of 99% are not unusual. As little as 32-64MB of RAM and no temporary disk space or swap files are required.
File access is sequential. dfc-gorilla uses a single read pass during data comparison, with no backward seeks. It's ideal for situations that involve costly seeks (tape media), or in cases where back-seeking is not possible (streaming), this file access approach is unlike any previous byte-level difference technology.
The time to identify and encode the byte-level differences between data files is linear with respect to input file sizes. Previous technologies require quadratic runtime.
